President Ruto has stood firm on his plan to reduce borrowing from IMF. In an interview with media journalists at State house on Sunday evening, President Ruto said that when they came into government the country was in dire situation because of the borrowing burden.

''When I came into office, I had to cancel the borrowing of about 300 billion shillings that would have taken the country down the cliff."

The president went further to explain that IMF does not take part in decision making for the government of Kenya.

"The IMF does not run the government of Kenya, I do.  IMF does not make decisions for the government of Kenya, I do. IMF are our partners. They work with us on our priorities and proposals.

They support us where they can, they give us support where they can but ultimately, we make the decisions."

The president alluded that there are no external force or factors that influence decision making in his government. Every decision is made for the benefit of uplifting the country from where they found it.

"I make the right decisions for our country."

As of today, the public debt stands at 8.8 trillion shillings.  This was as a result of the jubilee government's borrowing spree.

"IMF wanted us to borrow slightly more, I said no.

The fiscal deficit has reduced from 1.1 trillion last year to 630 billion this year.
